Having worked at the University of Aberdeen, Durham University and now the University of Edinburgh as a Development Manager, Gordon is a specialist in charitable university fundraising. He has experience of fundraising for a wide range of projects from research, capital and student support. Including international university work such as in Africa. As a Chartered Marketer and communications professional he now mentors and presents at conferences. His personal work interest led Gordon to complete a MSc and dissertation on charitable fundraising in the HE sector.
Gordon studied Geography at the University of Aberdeen before being twice elected President of Sport by his peers. In this post he was a leader in the development of strategy, structure and sport facilities.
As an 18 year Gordon bought a car and drove around Southern Africa for nearly a year before attending university. When it came to eventually studying, his dissertation was on development in post imperial countries. In particular Africa. Since leaving school he has made it an ambition to see as much of the world as possible and to volunteer and help those less fortunate wherever possible.
Gordon claims his ‘heart is in Africa and thinks the work S4S UK does is essential to transforming the lives of those less fortunate. Without the support of charities such as S4S UK and the volunteers and donors who makes its activities possible, the standard of living, opportunities and everyday life for people in Africa would forever be unfair and unjust’.
